How did you two meet each other?
We met at one of our mutual friend’s house parties. After which we exchanged numbers via a GroupMe chat we were in. We went on our first lunch at Piada soon after and the rest was history.
How long have you guys been married?
1 year and 4 months (May 29, 2016)
What advice would you give to newlywed couples?
Brian: #TrustTheProcess! Remember what it was that got you both to the point that you were willing to link your eternal souls to each other. You will both change because no one is done growing into the person God has meant for them to be. You should both make it a priority to grow into each other and not away. Change is constant, but so is your love! Always remember to have fun and don’t take yourself too seriously!
Ashley: Communication is key. Making an effort to keep the lines of honest communication open is important to a successful marriage. Not being afraid to voice your thoughts and feelings, but also taking into consideration your spouse’s feelings as well.
What traits do you think are necessary to sustain a lively and successful marriage?
Brian & Ashley: Humor, Vulnerability, Trust, Willingness to compromise, Patience, and a sense of adventure.
How do you define “Black Love?”
Brian & Ashley: Black Love is like a umbrella in a thunderstorm, you may not be able to see where you are going, but you know you are better together. Black love is the first love, it is passionate and everlasting. There’s no love deeper; it’s the definition of unconditional.
